President Update - March 2016
Posted 110 Months Ago
Hello! Are we really on week 11?! Not long left now until the Easter Break – you can make it!! Don’t forget that now is the time to fill out the National Student Survey if you’re graduating, the Annual Survey if you’re a continuing student, AND everyone has the opportunity to fill in their course feedback surveys! It’s really important to feedback to the university any good or bad things – after all, if you don’t then how will they know what to make better? Here’s what’s been happening the past couple of weeks for me:
- Demonstrator Pay – I always seem to rumble on about this don’t I? Well that’s because it’s really important our postgraduate students are paid fairly! The long awaited meeting to specifically discuss this takes place Friday 18th March, so hopefully next time I’ll have more news J
- Malaysia Review – The early bird catches the worm, or so they tell me, hence why I’ve been coming in to work for 7:30am lately to Skype with staff and students on our Malaysia campus! Other than making me really sleepy for the rest of the day, the review is vital in ensuring all Heriot-Watt students get the best learning experience possible.
- Learning & Teaching Oscars – Nominations finally closed last Friday! We’re still checking how many paper forms we got alongside the online nominations, so once we have them all in order I’ll have the fun task of going through them all and shortlisting the best staff at Heriot-Watt.
- Academic Reviews – Another month, another academic review! This time I sat in on the review of Architectural Engineering, and I was even shown around some of the awesome lab space we have on the Edinburgh Campus.
- Associate Student Visits & University Applicant Visit Days – I’ve been talking to prospective students about Heriot-Watt and presenting to them the main functions of the Student Union lately, in the hopes that they’ll choose us as their next step in life.
- Student Elections – I PROMISE this is the last time I’ll mention the elections! Thank you all so so much for voting in record numbers, I’m really pleased to hand over in a couple of months to Diarmuid and the new team! No doubt they’ll keep up the hard work and make things even better for you J Haven’t heard who the new officers will be? Head on over to http://www.hwunion.com/elections/results where you can also see all of the voting count sheets.
As usual along with all this, I’ve been kept busy with a number of different University meetings where I strive to represent your views. If you have any questions, queries, comments or just want to chat, make sure you get in touch on union.president@hw.ac.uk – speak soon! Hannah x
