Are you stressed out?  Do you think a cuddle from a dog would help you to de-stress??

Well good news!  In partnership with Therapet, the Healthy Universities Strategy Group are bringing “pet therapy” to Heriot-Watt on Wednesday 8th Oct from 11.30 – 13.30 in the student union.  Specially trained calming pooches will be on hand as part of our activities to mark World Mental Health Day.   You can book a 20 min slot and have a cuddle from a lovely dog and you will be amazed at how spending some time with these cute canines can help ease your stress!

We have limited availability and all slots will be booked on a first come first served basis.  If these sessions prove popular we will be looking to host another one later in the year.

Booking will go live on Wednesday 1st October 2014 at 10am, we will send out the link Wednesday morning.

Remember that we’re also launching our involvement with the SANE black dog campaign on Friday 10th October. You can have your picture taken with the first Black Dog statue – named Angus – brought to Scotland in partnership with SANE and Ryden property consultants last year.

The aims of the campaign are to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and encourage people to seek help early, rather than suffering in silence using visually striking Black Dog statues to raise awareness. More information can be found here www.sane.org.uk/ Heriot-Watt is launching fundraising activities so that we can bring the next SANE Black Dog to Scotland. If you would like to have your picture taken with the dog statue you can pop along to our event on Friday 10th from 10am in the main reception, to book a slot contact Laura Fraser at L.Fraser@hw.ac.uk
