Be our next marketing intern

Hi, I’m Andy and I’m the current Marketing & Communications Assistant at the Union. That means I’m often the one firing out hilarious (well…) social media posts from the Union or sometimes sending you e-mails (and memes) about surveys and such. I also assist the rest of the Marketing Team with helping to plan and implement marketing campaign materials for the Union. For example you might remember the ‘We Are Your Student Union’ campaign recently which was all about raising awareness of what the Union is and what we do.

We’re looking for somebody to take over from me as the new marketing intern from May-September 2017. The successful intern will review the Union’s current marketing strategy and help to plan our marketing campaigns for the 2017/2018. This would be a great opportunity for current third year business management students who have had studied marketing related courses. I’m on the Business Management with marketing course and I’ve been able to apply what I’ve learnt in lectures into real life work.

I initially joined the Union as an intern working over the summer period to refresh the Union’s website and to capture Freshers Week on social media. One moment I was running after ‘zombies’ in the apocalypse for Snapchat and the other I was munching on free Dominos whilst touring the Freshers Fair. There’s such a variety of work at the Union, you could be helping to lower food prices in the university one day, promoting a speed dating event the other or petting alpacas as part of wellbeing week!

It’s been a great opportunity to work with some amazing people and to see first-hand the work of the Student Union. The experience and responsibility I’ve gained has helped me to stand out on applications and to secure interviews for graduate jobs.

So if you want to put your marketing skills into action this summer, and have a laugh as you do it – then I’d highly recommend applying for the Marketing Internship over summer!

If you have any more questions about the role you can drop Jamie Nutter an e-mail at j.nutter@hw.ac.uk. Likewise, if you’d like to have a chat with me about how I’ve found it you can e-mail a.thornton@hw.ac.uk.

If you’ve decided the Marketing Intern is for you then send your completed application form (via the Union Jobs site) to Gillian Fortune at G.J.Fortune@hw.ac.uk before 9am on Monday 24th April. Good luck!
