Meet your new student advisors

Posted 102 Months Ago

Hello Jilly and Ailie - your new Student Advisors!

Jilly is on the left and Ailie is on the right

We've recently welcomed two new Student Advisors to The Advice Hub.

We caught up with them both to see how they're settling in and to tell us about themselves:

Jilly (on the left)

Jilly has moved to Edinburgh from Perth and is working towards becoming a fully trained student counselor. She has recently completed a certificate in student counseling and is well on her way to achieving this!

When she's not here at the Union she enjoys running, weightlifting, baking and obstacle racing!

Ailie (on the right)

Ailie's family has a long history with Heriot-Watt! Her Dad was one of the very first students of Heriot-Watt, her brother did her degree here and her two sons have recently graduated from here as well!

In her spare time she enjoys painting and spending time in the countryside, where she lives.

Jilly, Ailie and Angela (our existing Advisor) are all here to provide help and advice for you.
Pop down and see them in the Union's Advice Hub which is located in the Hugh Nisbet Building - next to the Student Shop.

The Great British Bake Off is BACK!

Well it is in Halls! We're looking for you and your Halls to get together and bake us a delicious two-tier cake. We want nice and moist cakes and no soggy bottoms please.

Check out your briefing from Mel & Sue below

Bake them in your kitchens and bring them in for the Great Judging on 14 November at 6pm in Libertys.

Our campaigns page

Posted 102 Months Ago

You might have noticed over the summer that we have refreshed our website.

One of the new sections you'll notice as you scroll along is Change Things.

And within that you'll find Campaigns.

What is the new Campaigns page?

  • It's a new page that lets you see what national and local campaigns are coming up and how you can get involved with them.  For example there's a National Demonstration against the marketisation of education coming up on 19 November in London. We're planning buses down with the other Edinburgh universities. Drop us a Facebook message or e-mail union.president@hw.ac.uk if you want to get involved with it.
  • You can share your campaign ideas with us and we'll help you to get it up and running. We can also post your campaign ideas and help you get other students involved with starting it.
  • You can also see what campaigns we're running such as Mental Health Awareness week or our campaign to get more study space on campus. Plus we'll use our page to tell you about all the things we've been getting done for you.

So get involved, and change things with your Student Union.

Just hover over 'Change Things' up there and click on 'Campaigns'
